Alternating Current Is More Fatigable Than Pulsed Current in People Who Are Healthy: A Double-Blind, Randomized Crossover Trial

چکیده
Abstract Objective Tolerance level and rapid fatigue onset are limitations in the use of neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) as an electrotherapeutic resource rehabilitation training protocols; however, it is unclear if pulsed current (PC) alternating (AC) produce different levels when applied at submaximal contraction level. The purpose this study was to compare discomfort between PC AC during a protocol people who healthy. Methods In double-blind, randomized crossover trial conducted laboratory setting, 30 male volunteers [23.23 years age (SD = 4.59)] performed 2 protocols (with 7-day interval) order: (pulse duration milliseconds, pulse frequency 100 Hz) (2.5 kHz, 0.4 burst Hz). NMES currents were knee extensor motor point dominant limb. consisted 80 evoked contractions (time on:off 5:10 seconds) lasted 20 minutes. maintained constant intensity throughout protocol. primary outcome measures maximal voluntary isometric contraction, index (evoked torque decline), fatigability (number for 50% drop evoked-torque from start), total torque-time integral (TTI), decline TTI, Results 2.5 kHz demonstrated higher post-fatigue, index, (ie, fewer reach smaller TTI compared with PC. No between-currents difference observed Conclusion less fatigable than kHz. Impact Based on study, preferred choice goal generate muscle work, mechanical load, both athletes healthy programs disease or injury.

Effect of Anodal Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation on Autism: A Randomized Double-Blind Crossover Trial
The aim of this study was to evaluate the Childhood Autism Rating Scale (CARS), Autism Treatment Evaluation Checklist (ATEC), and Children's Global Assessment Scale (CGAS) after anodal transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) in individuals with autism. Twenty patients with autism received 5 consecutive days of both sham and active tDCS stimulation (1 mA) in a randomized double-blind cros...
متن کاملA randomized, controlled, double-blind, crossover trial of triheptanoin in alternating hemiplegia of childhood
BACKGROUND Based on the hypothesis of a brain energy deficit, we investigated the safety and efficacy of triheptanoin on paroxysmal episodes in patients with alternating hemiplegia of childhood due to ATP1A3 mutations. METHODS We conducted a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled crossover study of triheptanoin, at a target dose corresponding to 30% of daily calorie intake, in ten patie...
متن کاملEffect of Transcranial Alternating Current Stimulation on Anxiety and Hemodynamic Response in Patients Undergoing Surgery: A Double-Blind Controlled Clinical Trial
Background: Pre-op anxiety has adverse effects on the patientchr('39')s anesthesia and treatment. Currently, electrical interventions are widely used as non-invasive methods to control pre-op anxiety and may have advantages as compared with medical therapies. This study aimed to determine the effect of transcranial alternating current stimulation on anxiety and hemodynamic response of patients ...
متن کاملNaproxen in osteoarthrosis. Double-blind crossover trial.
In this double-blind crossover trial, naproxen (750 mg/day) was compared to placebo for the treatment of osteoarthrosis of the hip and knee. Patients were randomly assigned to treatment with either naproxen or placebo for 4 weeks and then to treatment with the alternate agent for a second 4-week period. 8 out of 9 objective and subjective measurements of drug efficacy clearly differentiated nap...
